New breakwater in the Port of Santander
17-08-2022
The Real Club Marítimo de Santander (RCMS), as concessionaire of the water installations since 2019, has inaugurated the new 65-meter-long concrete breakwater in the Molnedo dock in Puerto Chico, Santander (Spain). This new breakwater replaces the previous one, which was already in an advanced state of deterioration and compromised the safety of the vessels, disabling its function as an attenuator.
Almarin has recommended the optimal solution to the club for that exposed area, with extreme waves with a southerly wind, and later, together with his partner Lindley Marinas, he carried out the manufacture, supply and installation of the floating equipment. The definitive solution is an L-shaped breakwater, made up of three modules 15 meters long and 4 meters wide, in addition to the perpendicular module 20 meters long and 5 meters wide.
Almarin proposed notable improvements for the new infrastructure: a greater width of the 20-meter long module (5 meters instead of 4 meters), thus having a greater displacement, positioned transversally to the waves - with the consequent reduction of this - and, ultimately, improving the performance of the infrastructure; as well as a slightly shorter L module to facilitate navigation in the deepest area.
